Organic Nuts and Bolts
We want to get human agendas out of the way. We want to learn to follow the Spirit’s leading together. We want to grow as disciples/followers of Jesus.
There is a set of heart and mind that is necessary for all these. There are also practices, things we do to facilitate them. You need both. Here is a short example to illustrate.
My wife and I have a great relationship. We love each other actively, every day. Our hearts are fully devoted to each other. She is my one answer to all wife questions. We DO date nights, share household chores, help kids with homework, etc.
It would be absurd for someone to say “I want a great marriage, so we should do date nights, share household chores,…” and ignore their heart toward their spouse! It would also be absurd for people to just say they love their spouse and not do things that show love and nurture the relationship.
Listening to the Spirit and following his lead is always the right answer. We can do things that facilitate listening and following or that hinder listening and following. I would offer this as a starting point. These things have been helpful for us.
